Khan el Khalili private tour: why the bazaar rewards a guide

A Khan el Khalili private tour suits this place better than most. The bazaar has no single opening time: shops and cafés keep their own hours, so a guide who knows the lanes saves you the wandering. The bazaar itself needs no ticket, but the monuments around it do. The Al-Muizz Street area ticket for foreign adults is EGP 220, and the Citadel is EGP 550 in 2026, so tours that include entries take real money off the day.

Al-Muizz Street runs from Bab al-Futuh to Bab Zuweila and passes 29 monuments from different eras. On a private tour you set the pace along that line, stop at the stalls you like and leave when you have had enough. Your hotel is the starting point for most options below, and the car brings you back.

All six tours are priced per person, with prices from October 2026.

Private shopping tour in the bazaar

The three-hour shopping tour is the simplest way into the market, at $31 per person. It includes hotel pickup and return, a private air-conditioned vehicle, a private tour leader and water. The route is built around the bazaar and local markets, so you spend the time at the stalls. Food and drinks are extra. It fits couples and solo travellers who want help finding the right corners.

Coptic Cairo and the bazaar

Two half days combine Old Cairo with the bazaar. The five-hour option at $47 goes to the Hanging Church, Ben Ezra and Abu Serga with an Egyptologist, then to Khan el-Khalili. Entries, transport and parking are in the price. The four-hour option at $55 visits the Hanging Church, Ben Ezra and Saint Barbara before the bazaar, with a private guide, a round-trip transfer, entries along the route and water. Choose the Egyptologist version for history, the shorter one for a lighter morning.

A full day: the Citadel or the mosques

For a whole day, two six-hour routes include lunch. The $77 tour covers the Saladin Citadel, Coptic Cairo and the bazaar with an Egyptologist; entries, parking and lunch are in the price. The $120 tour runs through the Muhammad Ali Mosque, Sultan Hassan and Al-Azhar before it ends in the bazaar, with a private guide, hotel pickup, entries to the named sites and lunch. Pick the first if you want views over Cairo from the Citadel; pick the second for the medieval mosques.

An evening route through Al-Muizz Street

The five-hour evening tour costs $55 per person. It runs past the Al-Fishawi coffeehouse and along Al-Muizz Street to Al-Azhar Park, with hotel pickup and return, a private guide and water. The published daytime hours of the Al-Muizz monuments are 09:00 to 17:00, so the evening belongs to the lanes and cafés. For the interiors, take one of the day tours above.

Private or small group?

If you mostly want the atmosphere and the show, a small-group day is cheaper. The six-hour tour with a Tanoura dance show starts at $49 per person and includes hotel pickup and return, air-conditioned transport, a tour leader, the show ticket and water. It follows Bab al-Futuh, Al-Hakim and Al-Azhar to the bazaar. The Egyptologist comes with the private option; on the small-group version it is an upgrade. Go private when you want your own timetable, a shop-by-shop pace or time for a family with children.
